Annual Giving Ambulance Appeal
As you know, a medical emergency can happen in an instant. A car accident on the way to work in the morning or a child's injury at a school sporting event. A loved one with chest pains in the middle of the night. These are all situations that the Marshalltown Area Paramedic Services (MAPS) do respond to. As an extension of the MMSC Emergency Dept., MAPS provides ambulance services to the greater Marshalltown area and beyond. That is why the MMSC Foundation is committed to raising $150,000 to replace one of the four ambulances in the fleet.
More than 4,200 times a year, MAPS is dispatched to provide life-saving treatment and transport for our loved ones, neighbors and friends. The average life of an ambulance is 4-5 years and it has been at least 6 years since the hospital purchased a new ambulance. MAPS covers 573 square miles including Marshalltown and Marshall County, in addition to, transfers that are needed across a 6 county vicinity. On average, the Emergency Dept. has 12 transfers a week that may include Mayo Clinic, University of Iowa, and other Iowa hospitals.
The ability to stabilize and transport patients as quickly as possible is paramount to the mission of providing excellent emergency medical care. This is why it takes a community to ensure that our emergency and trama services continue to be the best in the area.
Your financial support is vitally important. Please consider making a gift to your community.
Gifts can be made by contacting the foundation office at 641-753-2712 or click here for the Annual Giving Ambulance Appeal letter.

Message from the Foundation President
In recent times, hospitals like ours have experienced severe economic threats to their on-going existence. While our hospital is virtually debt-free, we have not been exempted from the sting of these economic circumstances. I believe that it is part of the Foundation’s mission to seek the support of those people and institutions which have benefitted from the existence of the Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center. In carrying out its mission to support Marshalltown Medical & Surgical Center, the Foundation will seek the support of our healthy community. I look forward to working with all of you.
Best regards,
James L. Goodman

Kevin Hitchins
MMSC Foundation Board President
Attorney-at-Law
Board Member since 2004
"I chose to serve on the MMSC Foundation Board for a variety of reasons. I agreed to join the board when asked because of what I had seen of the hospital’s outreach and importance to the Marshalltown area. The longer I serve on the board the more I come to understand the importance of MMSC to our community. By serving on the Foundation I feel I am playing a helpful role in continuing the fine tradition established by the hospital. The Foundation has been a fun and exciting environment. The Cath lab addition and the addition of the clinic have shown what a difference the support can make. I think there are many more good things to come and I want to continue to be a part of them."
